Dehong International Chinese Schools are designed for Chinese students and offer an academic programme comprising of the Chinese compulsory curriculum combined with the Dulwich College International educational philosophy and pedagogy. 

The name Dehong is made up from the elements of Dewei (the Chinese name of Dulwich) and ‘the father of Chinese overseas students’ Rong Hong (Yung Wing), who is the first-known Chinese student to have graduated from Yale College. He was also a pioneer in supporting Chinese children to study in the United States to reform the country. Additionally, a descendant of Rong Hong (Yung Wing) co-founded Dulwich International College.

Dehong aims to develop citizens of the world who understand traditional Chinese culture and are nurtured to develop an open, inclusive mentality.  The teachers in Dehong International Chinese schools come from multicultural backgrounds and bring rich teaching experiences.  Our core beliefs are that “students come first- they benefit from holistic education”.

The students in Dehong will receive a holistic education which will enable them to become bi-lingual, bi-literate and bi-cultural global citizens. Dehong students will be able to participate in and benefit from the group activities and resources of the DCI network of schools. 

Dehong Beijing currently has students in elementary school，and will open more grades once the main campus begins in 2021.

Admissions Policy

We foster our students’development through kindness, honesty, ambition, responsibility, creativity, persistence, fairness, and curiosity. We motivate students to the pursuit of academic excellence. We welcome all students from families who understand and support the school's mission, vision and philosophy.

To become familiar with the whole school including our philosophy, facilities and culture, all families are encouraged to tour the school during the information session and prior to embarking on the admissions process.

Each year, we have planned points of entry in Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 7 and Grade 10. Students are encouraged to apply for other grades as well, please inquire with admissions if spaces are available. 

Admission Procedures

1. Parents submit application form and supporting documents (if needed)
2. Admissions Department arrange candidates’ 'Observation Day' on campus
3. Parents meet with admissions officer
4. Admissions Department issues offers to candidates meeting entry requirements
5. Parents pay the tuition and other relevant fees
6. Students onboard

*Important Notice:

1. Eligibility Requirements: All the students in compulsory education must meet Xueji regulations to be enrolled in Dehong.
2. Overseas candidates: Special arrangements can be made for overseas candidates' entry.
3. Waiting List: An applicant will be placed on the waiting list if there are no available places. Waiting Lists are maintained for one academic year only.

Class Sizes

The maximum number of students in each class is as follows:

1. Nursery – up to 16 students
2. Reception – up to 22 students
3. Pre-school & G1 to G12 – up to 24 students

Tuition Fee

* No application fee is charged currently. 

* Families with 3 or more children enrolled are entitled to a discount of 5% per student.

• School Bus Service

The school bus is an optional service provided by Quan Yueda (Beijing) School Bus Operation Management Co. Ltd. The school collects the bus fee each semester. The fee is divided into three categories according to the distance between the pickup location and the school. The tax invoice is provided by the school bus company.

• School Uniform

All students are required to wear school uniform and should adhere to seasonal requirements.  Parents can make orders and payments via the uniform shop online, which provides express logistics tracking and after sales service. The price for a uniform set is 3100 - 3400 RMB.

• School Meals

The school meals are provided onsite by the school's caterer Sodexo, and meet rigorous HSE (health, safe, environment) standards. A selection of different balanced buffet options is available and food safety from food processing to nutrition matching is guaranteed. The ID/lunch card can be topped up periodically by parents to cover the costs of lunches. The fee for each meal is as below.

1. Breakfast: RMB 15
2. Lunch: RMB 30
3. Dinner: RMB 30 (Boarding students only)
4. Two snacks: RMB 12 (Kindergarten & Elementary school students only)

• School Boarding

Students in Secondary School (above G7) are provided with applications for school boarding.

• Refund Policy

We follow government instruction in our refund policy. If a family decides to cancel a student's contract, they must do so in writing according to the schedule below to be eligible for a refund:

• Withdrawal request received before onboarding - refund 100% of tuition     
• Withdrawal request received in or before one month after onboarding - refund 80% of tuition
• Withdrawal request received in or before two months after onboarding - refund 60% of tuition

Parents should read the terms of the enrollment contract carefully as signing it indicates acceptance of these payment and refund requirements.

Yung Wing Scholarships

Background

In 1828, Yung Wing was born into a poor farming family in Guangdong, China. At that time, studying was regarded as the most pointless pursuit by ordinary farmers. Yet Yung Wing’s father sent him to study at a school in Macao. This marked the beginning of Yung Wing’s journey as the “Father of Chinese Students Abroad,” and helped him become the first Chinese student to graduate from Yale University in 1854.

As Yung Wing once put it: “Having received this enlightened education, I believe it is my duty to enable those who come after me to enjoy the same benefits.”

Upholding Yung Wing’s pioneering spirit and patriotic devotion, and carrying forward his long-cherished wish to advance China through education, Dehong Education established the Yung Wing Scholarship Program in 2021.It aims to inspire a new generation of Chinese students who are ambitious, forward-thinking, and academically outstanding, and to nurture them into future talents who drive progress in China and the world at large.We do not merely help students gain admission to their ideal universities; we are committed to helping them shape a better future.

The Yung Wing Scholarship Program of Dehong Beijing for the 2026-2027 academic year is officially launched. This Program not only serves as a testament to individual excellencee but also enhances applicants' university application portfolios.

• Open to students entering Grade 10 (Year 1 of Senior High School) or Grade 11 (Year 2 of Senior High School) in the next academic year  (*Both current Dehong students and external applicants, are eligible to apply.)
• 100% tuition reduction for high school. 
• Awarded to students with the highest overall academic achievements. 

Application and Evaluation Process

    [ Grade 10 Entry Requirement ]

Stage I: Application Form to Admissions. Submission of a complete application to the Admissions Office shall include the following documents: Complete scholarship application form. Provide a transcript or proof of academic excellenceorequivalent to the entrance requirement of top high schools in their district. Valid academic IELTS score/TOEFL equivalent if the applicant’s first language is not English. Valid HSK or equivalent if the applicants’ first language is not Chinese.Personal Statement in English within 500 words

Stage II: In-School Preliminary Assessment Activities. A multi-dimensional assessment will be conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of applicants' overall competencies: An introduction to the school for self-evaluation. CEM Yellis.Individual interview in English: talk through the personal statement and portfolio. Evidence of extracurricular activities, e.g., service: Previous school reports, High school entrance exam transcript or proof of academic excellence, Certificates, Valid IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent report, Valid HSK or equivalent report (if relevant), If applicable, art portfolio and any award

Stage III:  In-School Final Assessment Activities.The assessment will focus on academic proficiency and in-depth thinking to evaluate applicants' core competencies in an all-round manner:Group discussion in English. Evaluation based on the contribution of discussion, identification and summarising main point, understanding the accuracy and relevance of statements made。

     [ Grade 11 Entry Requirement ]

Stage I: Application Form to Admissions. Submission of a complete application to the Admissions Office shall include the following documents: High School entrance exam results or proof of academic excellence; Valid IELTS/TOEFL score or equivalent; Valid HSK score or equivalent for non-native speaking Chinese; 500-word Personal Statement in English ; IBDP/A-Level subject selection; Prior schools’ profile

Stage II: In-School Preliminary Assessment Activities. A multi-dimensional assessment will be conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of applicants' overall competencies: An introduction to the school for self-evaluation. CEM Alis; Individual interview in English: talk through the personal statement and portfolio; Chinese A/B: a written response to two unseen texts; English A/B; Evidence of extracurricular activities, e.g., service: Previous school reports, High school entrance exam transcript or proof of academic excellence, Certificates, Valid IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent report, Valid HSK or equivalent report (if relevant), If applicable, art portfolio and any award

Stage III: In-School Final Assessment Activities

The assessment will focus on academic proficiency and in-depth thinking to evaluate applicants' core competencies in an all-round manner: Maths, One IBDP/A-Level subject assessment based on subject selection; Group discussion in English: a  Socratic discussion.
