This year, Dehong has introduced Free ASA Courses, giving children even more choices for their after-school time.
Taught by members of our own teaching and leadership teams, these courses extend familiar teachers, a familiar campus, and a wealth of learning resources into the hours after school.
From arts and music to English enrichment, homework support, and sports, children can continue to learn, explore, and develop their interests beyond the classroom.
📚 Academic Enrichment
Designed around students’ learning needs, these courses offer opportunities to extend and practise their academic skills, while providing additional challenges for those who are ready to explore further.
Courses include MOEMS Mathematical Olympiad, Mathematics, Oxford & Cambridge Tutorial Programme, and English Enrichment.
The Oxford & Cambridge Tutorial Programme uses novels, poetry, short stories, and other literary works as a starting point. Through reading, discussion, and seminars, students develop their language skills, critical thinking, and ability to express ideas, while building a strong foundation for future Oxbridge interviews and university study.
✏️ Homework Support
Dehong teachers will provide learning support after school, helping children review what they have learned that day, complete their homework, and receive timely guidance when they encounter difficulties. Over time, this also helps children develop more independent and organised study habits.
🎻 Arts & Music
Violin and viola courses give children the opportunity to get to know their instruments and learn to play. Through every bow and every note, they can discover rhythm and melody while developing their ability to listen, express, and create through music.
⚽ Sports
Football, basketball, badminton, and other sports activities encourage children to step away from the classroom and get moving, while developing teamwork, perseverance, and a sense of team spirit.
This year, we will also work towards establishing Dehong’s own school teams through regular training, giving students who are passionate about sport more opportunities to represent the school in competitions.
Dehong partners with professional organisations across different fields to bring a wider variety of courses to campus. From language learning to artistic creation, from technological innovation to hands-on experiences, students can choose according to their interests and development needs.
For example:
IELTS and TOEFL preparation
AI Music
Pet Fashion Design
Dunhuang Art & Creation
IPSC Practical Shooting
Swimming
...
For students who want to take their interests further, ASA after-school activities provide more space to learn, practise, and explore beyond the classroom.
Apart from ASA, Zhi Hong Courses have long been a distinctive part of life at Dehong.
For Primary students, Zhi Hong Courses run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while Secondary students can take part on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The programme spans a wide range of areas, including academics, arts, sports, science, and hands-on learning.
There are familiar favourites that children already know and love, as well as some more unusual options that simply look too interesting not to give a try...
For younger children, a Zhi Hong Course can be a small adventure of discovery.
Fuse beads, cross-stitch, musical theatre, rock band, catapult club...
Some courses develop hands-on skills. Some invite children to step onto the stage. Others encourage them to collaborate, create, and solve problems.
And of course, there are the familiar favourites:
Violin, piano, and other music courses;
football, basketball, badminton, and other sports;
English enrichment, mathematics, reading, and other academic courses.
If they love art, they can keep creating.
If they love sports, they can run, play, and sweat it out.If they’re curious about science and hands-on learning, they can build it, test it, and see what happens.
As students enter Secondary School, they have more freedom to make their own choices.
Alongside a rich range of academic, arts, sports, and competition-based courses, Dehong Secondary School also has a special group of “course creators” — students themselves.
Student-led Zhi Hong Courses.
From comics and crafts to food clubs and more, these courses may not look like traditional “classes”, but they reflect something important: students taking the initiative to express, explore, and share their own interests.
If they love comics, they can create together with like-minded classmates.
If they love food, they can explore, share, and put their ideas into practice together.
If they are interested in global issues, they can join Model United Nations or the Debate Club.
And if they are ready for a challenge, they can take part in subject competition clubs, golf, and other courses.
Here, a Zhi Hong Course is more than simply “choosing a course.”
Sometimes, it is a chance to discover an interest, meet like-minded friends, or even turn an idea into something real.
Dehong’s Zhi Hong Courses & ASA After-School Activities
make 3:10 to 5:10 more than just “two hours after school.”
They leave room for every child to discover more possibilities —
to try, to discover, and to find what they love.
